In the past commissioning was considered too expense, too time consuming, and unnecessary. It just added another cook in an already crowded kitchen. Today, commissioning is considered an essential function of sustainable construction and cost control. They are also required by many energy codes. We know that properly commissioned buildings tend to be more energy efficient overall, last longer, and have lower operation costs than buildings that are not. In our field experience, we have seen commissioning led to a noticeable decrease in change orders during construction. We work with our clients to develop the Owner’s Project Requirements and ensure that all elements of the building enclosure meet or exceed the Owner’s expectations and goals. We do this through a methodical process of collaboration and design review, inspection, testing and verification of construction to ensure each building enclosure is optimized to the customer’s expectations.
